Thank you for sharing your contacts.
Good hint to ask Harry regarding multiple copies.
I haven’t corralled the funds for one from my currently holidaying printshop yet but I’m always looking for helpful card printing options.
All the best.

Comment on I C E: Second Edition Game Review by Bob Pazehoski, Jr. https://www.meeplemountain.com/reviews/i-c-e-second-edition/#comment-141862 Fri, 27 Dec 2024 14:52:27 +0000 https://www.meeplemountain.com/?post_type=reviews&p=300761#comment-141862 In reply to Jacob.

Greetings Jacob! Thank you for the kind words. ICE is a solid game, and the more overtly positive reviews are definitely merited. I genuinely believe the breadth of gameplay options will allow for a variety of enjoyable experiences. It was well received, but I always try to mine out the reasons behind any hesitations. It’s the sort of game where I can see what everyone is saying, but I also see something in myself and my preferences that gets in the way. I’ve not had a chance to play since the prototype, though, so my thoughts aren’t as fresh all these months later.

I respect MM’s opinion because I love your website and your articles are so well-written. But I would have hoped for a higher score from you if I was going to back this confidently. Not sure now. The big question I have for anyone who’s played it is if you have crunchy decisions to make throughout the game. I would have thought there weren’t many because the gameplay does not seem that deep to me. But then I see some really strong positive reviews so I start second-guessing. I don’t know.

Comment on The Key Mega Game Review by Monika https://www.meeplemountain.com/reviews/the-key-mega-review/#comment-141837 Thu, 26 Dec 2024 22:26:33 +0000 https://www.meeplemountain.com/?post_type=reviews&p=244442#comment-141837 Thank you for this review which cools down some of the frustration I experienced after purchasing the French version (as I’m in France) of “The Key – Casses en série au Royal Casino” as a Christmas present, then during first time play, finding conflicting clue cards and the game not working out in the end in spite of having discarded the conflicting cards. Really crappy QA makes this a huge disappointment and zero motivation to play again. I’m looking into whether I can return the opened and one time played game.

I’m one of those players that didn’t love Arcs but enjoyed the experience of playing with my more “random” and “pivot-friendly” gamers. I’ll always be a TI3 player at heart. That said, great review! I get recognizing a game for it’s brilliance and distinguishing that it’s not for you. Thanks for the review!

Hey Bo,

Thanks for reading, and for your comment. I did not personally enjoy the game, because I found myself getting funneled into a more restrictive set of decisions. I attempted to make it clear in the review that this was *my* experience, not one I think everyone will have. I did not have the opportunity to play more than one full campaign, but my emotional experience didn’t change drastically as it went on. If I were asked to participate in a campaign again, I would give it another go, and I would love to have a better experience. That’s a win for everybody!

My distaste for the experience didn’t stop me from appreciating that it is a magnificent design, and unlike anything I’ve played before. It is the unfortunate reality of SEO that star ratings are necessary, and my experience with Arcs is one that doesn’t settle easily into such a system.

I don’t understand the tone. Glad you liked it ?¿

Seems to be more like first impressions, and I disagree with the randomness critique. With my experience the campaign is much more forgiving than the base game.

Give it another shot, maybe you won’t hate it so much.

Hey Jon,

Sorry you didn’t care for the review! I rated The Blighted Reach 5 stars because I think it is a singular achievement, and I’ve never played anything like it. I feel as though I said as much in the review, though perhaps I could have been clearer. I felt hesitation in giving it the 5 star rating because of the text equivalent, but the rating is correct. Just because *I* hated it doesn’t mean I don’t recognize that it’s excellent, which I believe I did state rather explicitly in the review.

You hate it with a passion but give it a 5 star review that says you’ll play it every chance you get. You get one thinly outlined reason why you hated it then just end the review. This feels like you just stopped halfway through after realizing you hate it but love it. Maybe the worst review I’ve seen on this site.

This year definitely saw a huge jump! Even by the best numbers I heard though, GenCon dwarfs it! And that’s not to mention things like SPIEL or UKGE!

As of this year it’s the second largest tabletop convention in the country only behind gencon.
